STD/HIV/AIDS Survey done by KSCRI during 2007-2008
West Bengal State AIDS Prevention and Control Society and the Funding Agency DFID has taken initiative to saturate the coverage of Female Commercial Sex Workers through scaling up the coverage areas. The main objective of the project is to promote better sexual health and to prevent HIV transmission among these sex workers and their associates, who often stay with them regularly, through behaviour change communication, STD treatment, condom programming.
Kolkata Socio Cultural Research Institute has joined hands with WBSAP&CS and has undertaken an intervention program on STD/HIV/AIDS among the sex workers surrounded Tollygunge brothel area and also some sex workers those who fly around Lake and Dhakuria in South Kolkata. By utilizing the existence network and positive transference with the community, the institute is able to carry out implementing program successfully on the proposed intervention program from June 2006.
KSCRI runs a clinic named “Atma Marjada” in the red light area of Tollygunge and also a clinic at Keyatala where regular health check up, camps for the sex workers and their children carried on by our specialist doctors. KSCRI has successfully performed the STD/HIV/AIDS intervention program from the CSWs of Tollygunge to other areas and made people understand the threat of the disease and the possible precautionary measures.
